Wondering about The Cookie Diet? Chances are you’ve heard rumblings in the diet world about this funny diet. Eat cookies to lose weight? Is it possible? Or is it too good to be true?

While there are a number of ‘cookie type diets‘ out there, the main one that seems to have had the most legitimate success is Dr Sanford Siegals cookie diet.

Dr Siegal originally developed his diet in 1975 to help some of his patients lose weight. He came up with a very specific, unique cookie recipe that included a special amino-acid protein blend. This protein added into the cookies helps to curb hunger and keep you full.

So does it work?

Well, it seems to work pretty well. Dr Siegal has claimed to help over 500,000 people lose weight with his diet. And when you really look at it, you can see why.

There are 2 main reasons that diets don’t work:

#1) You Get Hungry (and break your diet)

#2) You Feel Deprived Eating Food That Tastes Bland and Boring (and break your diet)

The Cookie Diet by Dr Siegal solves both of these problems – which is probably why it’s so popular.

With the hunger-controlling protein formula, the cookies help curb hunger and keep you feeling fuller longer. So hunger doesn’t rear it’s ugly head and you aren’t tempted to break your diet.

They also taste good – and who doesn’t love cookies? So you feel like you’re ‘cheating’ and eating cookies all day. There’s no sense of deprivation so you don’t end up breaking your diet.

How it Works:

With Dr Siegals plan you eat up to 6 cookies per day (i.e. 3 for breakfast and 3 for lunch). Then follow this with a sensible dinner.

If you follow the instructions, the diet itself is about 1000-1200 calories per day. This sets up a calorie deficit that will help you lose weight.

Obviously the main benefit to this diet is that you get to eat cookies, enjoy yourself without feeling deprived – and still lose weight.

Another benefit to this diet is that it’s convenient. You don’t have spend hours (which most of us don’t have) buying and/or preparing special diet food. You just grab your cookies and go.

Many people have reported losing a lot of weight on this diet. Some of the testimonials on Dr Siegals website report people losing up to 1 pound per day, although the doctor himself recommends about 10 pounds of fat loss per month.

On the downside however, it’s probably fair to note that this is really only a temporary diet plan. You can’t stay on this plan for life. So once you’ve reached your goal and lost the weight, you’ll probably want to adopt a more sensible, lower calorie eating plan – with the occasional cookie for a snack.

There are other cookie type diets as well however they don’t have the history or proven results of the original Dr Siegal diet. If you’re thinking about trying one of these diet, you may want to do a lot of research before (and definitely talk to your doctor before starting any diet or exercise plan).

So is it for you?

It really depends on what you’re looking for. The cookie diet would probably be best for someone who wants to lose a lot of weight fast, but safely. Someone who doesn’t do well on deprivation-type diets and who likes their sweets. It also would fit someone who has a very busy lifestyle and doesn’t have time to prepare food.

Excess body fat is one of the root cause of all your weight problems and issues. However, it is not that difficult to lose fat quickly.

Top 3 Ways to Lose Fat Fast

1. Exercise

I am sure you have heard this many times. Exercise is the best way to reduce fat and lose weight. However, there is another very important thing that you need to be aware of.

Stop your body from going into the comfort zone. If you jog for ten minutes every day, your body will get accustomed to it. So, the idea is to change either you timing or alter speed so that your body does not feel comfortable. This is a great tip and it helps increase your metabolism.

Doing same exercise with same intensity does not do any good after some time. It is extremely important to change the intensity or the movement to produce better results.

2. Do Not Even Think of Fad Diets

I know you hate them and there is another reasons why you should never follow them. This is kind of going to reduce your metabolic rate.

When your body is in starving mode, you lose weight but when you stop dieting your body begins gaining weight like anything. This is kind of a yo-yo effect.

So, whatever, you do avoid fad diet.

Eat sensibly instead. Make sure your diet is rich in proteins, limited in carbohydrates and contains essential fats.

3. Fat Burners

Last but not the least, there are some fat burning pills that can be highly effective in making you get rid of excess body fat quick and fast.

Fat burners work by increasing your metabolic rate so that your body is better able to burn fat at a much faster rate. Not only this, they also suppress your appetite since it is not possible to achieve effective weight loss without controlling your diet.

It is quite natural for you to be wary of such products since most of them come with bogus claims. Not only this, a wrong product can also land you in the hospital with serious side effects. However, there are some quality products that are made in FDA approved labs and can be bought legally without a prescription.

Such fat burner can help you lose weight quick and fast. One of the major advantages of such a fat burning pill is that it can help boost energy levels almost instantly. You would be surprised to know that it can boost your energy levels within 20 minutes of having it.

It is not just a great option for people who want to lose weight but also for sports people who want to keep their weight down consistently.

Besides this, there are some natural fat burners that are made with organic ingredients. One of such fat burners that is making waves all over the world is made with capsicum extract. Red hot chilly peppers are known for their weight loss properties. Now these very peppers are being used to formulate an all natural pill that can boost your metabolism and help you lose weight even if you do not workout.

It is being promoted with slogans like “Slim while you sit” and “Slim at your Desk”.

However, what you need to keep in mind is that combining such a fat burner with little exercise can help boost its effects and make you lose weight really fast.

One of the most important advantages of such a fat burner is that it does not have any side effects.

No wonder, such fat burners are extremely popular with people trying them out to lose weight as quickly as possible.

So, If You Want to Get a Body You can Flaunt This Summer, Check out the Best Natural Fat Burner Ever!

Manuel Uribe happens to be the world’s heaviest man at 1200 pounds. He managed to lose weight and stay in excellent health condition. He did not do this by surgery, contrary to the rumors that have been spread around. He managed to do this through sheer determination and the Zone diet. The key importance to this regimen is that it focuses on what we eat that affects our hormones. This regimen promises to keep your hormones balanced.

The Zone diet is different from other typical weight loss regimens. In this regimen, you will get to eat more carbohydrates. Low-carb diets became popular because they work. Low-carb regimens work in a way that your body is depleted of carbohydrates, thus you burn fat instead of energy. The major disadvantage of low-carb regimens is that you get the feeling of tiredness and you have low energy.

This regimen will make you eat more carbohydrates, thus you get to feel more energized. It is a fact that you feel fatigue and have bad mood swings when you are in a low-carb diet. This is the reason that some people give up.

The Zone diet will manipulate your hormones in order to lose those extra pounds. It emphasizes eating mini meals and eating more frequently. Eating smaller meals causes less secretion of insulin, the hormone that is responsible for making us fat. The result of this is that your body will stop putting on too much fat. When you eat frequently, your body will be constantly digesting food, thus it will have a higher metabolic rate.

Exercise is also another key factor to busting the fat. There are a lot of exercise machines that can help you achieve a sexy body. It is best to consult a professional if you want your regimen to be successful.

With all the low carb diets out there it can be difficult to ascertain which one is right for you, and even what the differences between all of them are! Low carb diets are all the rage, and they have proven to be very effective. But, which one do you choose? Which one is right for you? Are they all the same? These are all fair questions, and we’ll attempt to clarify the differences in all three of these popular diets so that you can choose the one that is right for you!

The Atkins Diet

The book is an affordable $14.95 for the paperback version, making this program affordable, for starters. The Atkins diet was also the first and the most successful low carb diet, which is attractive for those that want a diet with a history. Basically, the Atkins diet is all about high protein, high fat, low carb, and low sugar. If you are worried about being able to prepare the foods and snacks, Atkins offers a whole line of controlled carb snacks and has Atkins brand foods like Endulge, as well as shakes and pasta side dishes. Atkins is so popular that it has major national restaurants such as Subway and even TGI Friday’s offering Atkins approved items on their menus.

The high fat content of the diet has earned the Atkins diet a lot of criticism because the large amount of red meat, dairy products, and butter leaves many with higher LDL cholesterol rates, leading to clogged arteries. This may or may not be true for you, but what is true is the first phase of the diet allows no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day! No fruit, bread, grains, starchy veggies, or caffeine! Eventually you’ll be able to eat some of these things again, but giving it all up can be rough! This is definitely not a good diet pick for vegetarians but is great for those that love red meat, fish, eggs, and salad.

The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet book will run about $25 and is considered to be much like the Atkins diet, but has been successful because it is easier to understand, better organized and simply a better read. The South Beach Diet is also more flexible than the Atkins diet, which many find appealing. It’s true that The South Beach Diet also has a two week induction period where you will eliminate most carbs, but it is low in saturated fats and high in fiber.

The problem with South Beach is that it isn’t really the healthiest program, though you will lose weight. The problem is that it encourages the consumption of processed foods, which isn’t good for long term health. While the induction period doesn’t allow alcohol, fatty meats, pasta, sugar, sugary vegetables, fruits and fruit juices, cookies, potatoes, milk and ice cream, healthy carbs will be allowed back into the diet in subsequent phases. South Beach is very specific about what should and should not be eaten, which is different than the Atkins Diet. If you love pasta, this isn’t the diet for you, but if you are a lover of eggs, lean meats, fish, nuts, and ricotta cheese you’ll love this diet!

The Zone Diet

The Zone has been around since 1995, and is a diet that is composed of 40% carbs, 30% fat, and 30% protein. The diet was originally created to increase the performance of athletes and will require a lot of math to figure how much of each thing you will need to eat!

The Zone doesn’t allow high glycemic index carbs such as white bread and sugary goods as well as egg yolks, deli meats, and fatty red meats. It’s been said that Jennifer Aniston and Renee Zellweger are firm believers of the Zone.

This simply is not a good diet for you if you want a simple diet with simple instructions, but works for those that want a very obsessive compulsive diet that will allow you to control every portion exactly as prescribed. Simply put, the Zone Diet is very complicated!

Let’s face it — the real goal is living longer in good health. Nobody wants to spend extra decades lying motionless in a bed in a nursing home.

But extra decades playing golf, going on cruises, watching the sun rise and set, reading great books and listening to beloved music, participating in the causes and events of the time… who wants to give that up?

So if I have one quibble with this book it’s that Dr. Sears is skeptical of life extension theories. He believes that the lifespan of the human species cannot be extended. There is a limit.

The good news of course is that few people reach that 120 mark now, so there’s still lots of room for improvement.

Of course, it starts with the Zone diet. He goes into great detail on the health benefits of keeping your insulin under control.

Plus, he points out that although many things can improve our health, the only scientifically proven way to increase average lifespans is caloric restriction. This has been demonstrated in animals time and time again in numerous studies.

Animals given as much food as they want to eat die faster than animals given sparse though adequate meals.

He recognizes this is not going to be popular with 99.99% of the human race. Nobody wants to subsist feeling semi-starved.

However, when followed with high-nutrition vegetables and fruits, the Zone diet allows people to restrict calories without hunger pangs and cravings. This is because most vegetables and fruits contain fewer calories than grain-based foods — but a lot more vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.

Therefore, replacing high-calorie, low-nutrition grain foods with low-calorie, high-nutrition fruits and vegetables may help us live longer and healthier.

Then you need to exercise with moderation.

Then you want to spend time every day meditating to reduce the unfavorable hormone cortisol.

Dr. Sears spends many chapters on hormones and supplements, because he knows that anybody interested in anti-aging is hearing about the benefits of DHEA, melatonin and others.

This is another reason I like this book so much. When I read about the benefits of taking DHEA supplements, I re-read that chapter to remind myself that I want high DHEA levels… produced by my own body, not out of a bottle.

The hormone supplements may not harm us (though they may), but they are not the solution. The Zone diet is what keeps our body hormones in balance, and producing the hormones we need.

He also looks at vitamin and mineral supplements and makes suggestions. For example, Vitamin E is best to take, since it’s so hard to get from our diet, even a healthy Zone diet.

He handles the biology and chemistry behind our body’s processes in a sure way. He’s a scientist first and a writer second.

Sometimes he points out that a certain drug works by affecting a certain biological sequence. Then of course describes how the Zone diet is even more effective because it affects the very beginning of the process.

Dr. Sears, if you ever read this, I think you should write a book explaining how various popular over the counter and prescription drugs affect people — and of course point out how the Zone diet would do a better job.

Too many people take pills believing they’re magic. They’re not. They do things to and within our bodies that seem to affect various diseases. But there are better, healthier ways.

As Dr. Sears so often writes, we need to recognize that food itself is the most powerful drug we can take.

With every meal and snack we eat, we are increasing our health — or decreasing it.

Extending our life or shortening it.

This is a terrific book for those of us who wish to increase our health and extend our lives.

For those of us who, as Nathan Pritikin once wrote, want to go swimming with our great-grandchildren.

Formally named Enter The Zone, the Zone diet book was jointly written by Dr. Barry Sears, a former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Bill Lawren. Published in 1995 and translated into 22 languages, this book has sold more than 2 million hard cover copies. Dr. Sears created the Zone diet which has caught the imagination of a lot of people. Famous personalities from Hollywood, such as Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Sandra Bullock among many others, swear by the Zone diet.

Dr. Sears, the leading authority on ‘the dietary control of hormonal response’ propounds that eating the right foods in the right way is the only way to become fit and get into shape. The book is based on the research in Medicine which won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1982. Useful for both the layman and the professional, the book explains the dietary rules and how they affect our health.

The Diet

Food, according to Dr. Sears, can be our greatest friend or our greatest enemy. The Zone is where we feel “alert, refreshed, and full of energy.” Most of us don’t care about food and eat whatever and whenever we feel like. Food needs to be treated like medicine and should be consumed at the right time and in right quantity. Food is a drug we shall be taking three times a day for the rest of our lives.

The theory behind this excellent diet as mentioned in the Zone diet book is that food needs to be consumed in the 40:30:30 ratio. 40% carbohydrates, 30% fat, and 30% protein – that should ideally be the composition of the food we eat. Each and every meal – unfailingly. This ideal ratio burns up the body fat by tuning up our metabolism. In addition to the ratio, care needs be taken that low-starch fruits and vegetables should make up the carbohydrates portion of the meal; lean proteins to make up the proteins; and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat to complete the balance.

Dr. Barry insists that the Right Proportion and the Right Portion is the key to good health and fitness. We need to control the three major hormones in our body:

· Insulin – Excess of this makes you, and keeps you, fat

· Glucagon – Releases carbohydrates stored in your body in a controlled manner and stabilizes your blood sugar levels

· Eicosanoids – The master hormones on which other hormones depend upon.

Chicken and fish are the main diet in the Zone diet plan, but there is a provision for practicing vegetarians too. Vegetarians can substitute the proteins in the plan by vegetable proteins. They can have Soy and Soy products as their main protein. There is another book “The Soy Zone” by Dr. Sears especially meant for vegetarians. It completely dispels the notion that this excellent diet is not for vegetarians.

Whether you are consuming chicken or a vegetarian diet the bottom line is: Right Proportion and Right Portion.

Every time you pick up a magazine, you are bombarded with articles about how to burn body fat. Unfortunately, these articles contain a lot of gimmicks and not a lot of reasonable or sensible science.

If you want to burn fat, you need to embark on a lifestyle change that includes regular exercise and a modified diet. There are three popular myths about fat loss that simply will not die; but this article debunks them so you can embark on a practical – and successful – weight loss journey.

Myth #1: Exercising Your Abs Will Burn Fat

The idea of spot reducing is an attractive one but unfortunately it simply doesn’t work in reality. Fat burning only occurs when you exercise your entire body for an extended period of time. Your heart rate must get elevated in order for you to burn calories and fat.

The best exercise for stimulating fat burn is interval exercise, which combines short bursts of intense cardio activity with intervals of more moderate cardio exercise. While toning your abs will contribute to a sleeker appearance and may help your clothes to fit better, spot reducing simply doesn’t work for fat burning.

Myth #2: Starvation is the Fastest Way to Burn Fat

You may believe that a starvation diet is the quickest way to kick your fat burning into gear. After all, if you starve yourself, your body is forced to burn fat for energy, right? Wrong.

While you may lose fat while your body enters starvation mode, you will gain all that weight back, plus some. In fact, it easy to overcompensate and begin binge eating once you have tried a starvation diet. The best way to burn fat is to change your diet so you burn a little fat at a time steadily, never entering starvation mode but still reducing your overall consumption so you lose weight. You can still eat fats while trying to lose fat too; increase your intake of monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats, which offer health benefits while satisfying your taste for fatty foods.

Myth #3: Any Amount of Exercise Burns Fat

In order to enter the fat burning zone, you must exercise steadily for over 20 minutes per day. If you exercise for less than 20, your body merely burns the calories you have consumed today. Exercise for more than 20 minutes, and your body begins to worry it will run out of energy, so it begins burning your reserves of stored body fat. So while the articles and advertisements for those 5 and 10 minute workouts are tempting, they won’t help you burn fat. On the other hand, some exercise is better than none at all, so be sure to squeeze 5 minutes in if that’s all you can do.

Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet when it comes to fat loss. It will take a lot of hard work and dedication, but it’s totally worth it when you have to buy a size smaller or take all your clothes in for alterations. Changing your diet and starting a sensible exercise routine are the best ways to begin your journey to weight loss success.

If you decide to go on the Zone Diet, one thing you can probably be sure of is that you won’t be hungry.

Unlike diets that restrict calories or fat, this diet allows both and encourages you to eat regular snacks to keep your insulin level consistent and to keep hunger at bay.

The basic premise of the diet requires that you eat proteins, carbohydrates and fats in a 40:30:30 ratio. If you eat this way, says Dr. Barry Sears, a biochemist who created the diet, you will control your insulin levels, have more energy, feel full and – best of all – lose weight.

To control insulin levels, the diet requires that you eat at regular intervals. You are to eat within an hour of getting up in the morning and consume regular snacks. A meal should keep you “in the zone” for 4-5 hours, while regular snacks are good for about 2 to 2 ½ hours. Snacks are essential, Sears argues, because they keep your insulin levels regular, which helps to control hunger. You are to eat snacks even when you don’t feel hungry.

So what exactly do you eat on the Zone diet? It’s important to know that when you begin the diet, you’ll figure out how much of each nutrient you need; for example, men usually require 4 “blocks” of protein a day while women need 3. But we can still get an idea of the plan by considering this sample menu:

Breakfast – 6 egg whites scrambled with 1 ounce Canadian bacon (protein); add 1 slice whole-grain bread, ½ c. strawberries and a small wedge of melon (carbohydrate); finish with ¼ cup slivered toasted almonds (fat).

Lunch – Chicken salad: Mix 4 ounces cooked chicken breast with 1 c. grapes, 1 slice tomato, unlimited lettuce and celery and add a piece of whole-grain bread (carbohydrate); blend it all with 4 teas. light mayonnaise (fat).

Snack – 1 ounce of deli turkey breast (protein), 1 c. strawberries (carbohydrate) and 6-8 peanuts (fat).

Dinner – 6 ounces of deli turkey or chicken meat (protein); 1 c. boiled onions, 1 ½ to 2 c. steamed broccoli and ½ cup fresh cranberries (carbohydrate); 4 teas. slivered toasted almonds (fat).

Snack – 1 ounce of cheese (protein); ½ sliced apple (carbohydrate).

As you can see, all of the meals should have this 40:30:30 mix. Men can have the same protein/carb/fat combo at all snacks as well, while women should cut out one of the fats from snacks each day.

Sugar is not an item that’s OK on the Zone diet, but many dieters save their fruit item from their meal to eat as a dessert. Some will add artificial sweetener to their berries, for example, to create more of a dessert feel.

So there you go.

Although it can be a fair amount of work (you must plan meals so you don’t go too far off track), the Zone diet is a successful diet plan that many people find gives them not only the benefit of weight loss but also increased energy and vitality.

This is a process I learned the hard way. We found a recipe for some banana cookies in the dehydrator, and thought we would give it a shot. One of the items it called for was wheat berries. We had no idea what a wheat berry was, so we headed to Whole Foods (because they have everything:-)

We found a little container of wheat berries, and headed back home. We had no idea you could make cookies on this diet, so we were all in. So, I took the wheat berries, rinsed them, and added them directly in the cookie mix just like that, and in the dehydrator they went. I could not wait for the next morning, and neither could the kids.

The smell was very good that next morning, and we were going to have us some raw banana cookies and almond milk for breakfast. The kids were raring to go. We pulled the cookies out of the dehydrator, and they looked a little odd. But what do we know.

I divided them up to each of us, and away we went. And then we all stopped real quick. The kids looked at us like you had snuck some boiled spinach in their mouth. They each spit it out. Not me though. I kept chewing, and chewing, and was determined not to give up. I was going to chew, and personally crack each wheat berry with my teeth. Except my gums got real tired and I eventually gave up. What went wrong?

After a quick review of the recipe, we noticed a small word next to these berries, SPROUTED!! But, we had not idea about sprouting anything at that point. No nuts, seeds, or anything. We were eating all that stuff raw.

So, the lesson learned is to read recipes and sprout all of your stuff, especially wheat berries. Here is how to do this:

Rinse the wheat berries
Get a mason jar, like in the picture, and add the wheat berries.
Soak overnight at least, 24 hours is better
Drain water, and rinse again.
Place wheat berries back in jar, drained, and place cheese cloth on the top of it. This will allow the sprouting process to begin.
Don’t place these in direct sunlight, but keep it where it is warm.
Rinse and drain 2 – 3 times a day.
After 3-4 days, you will have a jar full of sprouted wheat berries. These can actually be eaten just like this. There is a sweet tast to them know, that is much more enjoyable.

Manuel Uribe is the world’s heaviest man at 1200lbs. Manuel has not only remained in excellent health condition, but is also losing a lot of weight. Contrary to popular belief, he did not accomplish this through surgery, but with sheer determination, willpower, and the Zone Diet. The key important point of the Zone Diet is that what we eat affects our hormones, and the Zone Diet will keep your hormones balanced.

Not Your Typical Low Carb Diet The Zone Diet differs from your typical weight loss diet because you get to eat more carbohydrates. Low carb diets have been very popular because going low carb works. Low carb diets work because your body is depleted of carbohydrates and thus burns fat instead for energy. The major disadvantage is that the low carb dieter ends up feeling very tired and low on energy. The Zone Diet emphasizes on eating more carbohydrates so that the dieter will have more energy. Low levels of energy are linked to fatigue and bad moods, which are mostly reasons why dieters give up! You start thinking that it’s not working, you lose motivation and thus give up.

Manipulating Your Hormones To Lose Weight The Zone Diet differentiates itself because it manipulates your body hormones naturally to lose weight. The Zone Diet emphasizes a lot on eating smaller meals and eating more frequently. Smaller meals cause less insulin the hormone that makes us fat, which in turn stops your body from putting on fat. You eat more frequently so your body is constantly digesting food, and thus you have a higher metabolic rate. Keep in mind that we are like a fireplace, and to keep the fire burning, you need to supply it with fuel. Too little sticks and the fire stops burning, yet too many sticks and you have to store them somewhere else first.

At the same time, eating frequently also keeps your body thinking that it is full, so you will enjoy a reduced appetite too! Protein has an effect of releasing the hormone glucagon to the body, which frees up carbohydrates in the body. When there’s carbohydrates in the blood stream, your body receives the signal that it is full and stops eating! Think about it this way – if you have a constant supply of firewood for your fireplace, would you ever start worrying that you will run out of fuel and call for emergency help?

End Result? As a dieter, you become more in control of your own body and weight. You learn how to eat right so that your hormones are balanced and you get all of these while experiencing better energy levels and weight loss compared to traditional low-carb diets.
